Eyebrook finished the season on a high and produced great sport. There were a good number of quality browns and rainbows being caught. The fish certainly seemed to be feeding harder on the fry after the first frost of the year. Changing winds and conditions didn’t help and moved the fish around the reservoir. The most productive areas were the dam wall, Dogwood bay and the basin in a south westerly or the Island to Robbo’s cabin during the north winds. There were a good number of bank anglers this week targeting fry feeders into the margins. Most fished the Belle or lodge corner and the Island and generally all caught fish. Minkies, tubes or floating fry patterns taking most fish fished on a floating or intermediate line.

Members Richard Watson and Bill Whittle started the week very well. Drifting in a south westerly from the tower to Harrison’s corner they connected with over 20 rainbows some of which had grown on and had silver rays in their tails. All the fish took a white minkie fished on a floating line.

Wednesday fished very well with a rod average of 5.2. Mr G Martin and Mr S Martin fished Eyebrook twice this week and on both days, they caught plenty of fish. Most fish falling to a white minkie fished as a point fly on an intermediate line they drifted from Dogwood bay into the basin. Their best fish of the trip was a brown trout of over 5lbs which couldn’t resit the minkie just off the weed at the stones. Adrian Cook and boat partner Des Burgess caught 15 hard fighting rainbows whilst drifting the basin.

Mr Shields fished with a floating line and diawl bachs to secure his 6 fish whilst boat fishing. He also lost 4 at the net! Peter Bax and Michael Daymond finished their season on a high. Michael caught 14 fish on blobs and boobies fished on a slow sinking line. Member David Hay had the surprise of his life whilst boat fished very close to the dam wall. Soon after starting his afternoon session he hooked into a fish that went like a “steam train” ! After severalminutes of play David got the fish to the surface and safely into his net. It proved to be a fish of a life time. A perfect brown trout with super huge fins and tail, which tipped the scales at 7lb 14oz and swam away to grow even bigger. Well done David!

Float tuber Brent Hart also caught a perfect Eyebrook brown trout in weed cutter bay. He fished with an intermediate and white humungous and literally got towed around the reservoir when the fish took. Pictures of both Brents and David Brown trout can be found on our Facebook page flyfishstore

Sunday saw the end of season fur and feather match. A pairs match fished to fishery rules, 28 anglers fished to an 8 fish kill permit. Conditions were ‘challenging’ with a strong northerly and temperatures felt also artic! Most boats concentrated their efforts in the rough water in front of the dam and steadily caught the odd fish. There were only one pair to get their limits. Who else but Eyebrooks very own Lee Henfrey and boat partner Nigel Keeber. The pair caught their limit bag for a weight of 29lbs 8ozs. Lee said it wasn’t easy. With no fish in the boat at 12 o’clock he almost started to panic! They had covered a lot of water and had very little interest. Their hard work paid off when lee finally connected to a fish off Robbos cabin. Nigel was in too just a few casts later. All 16 fish came to a tube fly fished a few feet down. Second place went to Jobe Burnham and Toff Crowther with 11 fish for 20lb 6 oz. Jobe and Toff also caught two brown trout of 5lb and 4lb 8oz which were safely returned. A big thank you to everyone who attended, and an extra special thank you to Tony Smith for cooking the breakfast and Mark Goodge for the soup in the evening. The day raised £164.50 for the English disabled fly fishers.

Conditions made things hard this week. strong winds over the weekend resulted in no boats on the water. Earlier in the week fished well on fry patterns and washing line nymphs. Water temperature remains at 13.0 degrees.

During the week boats were concentrating in Dogwood bay, dam wall and The Island. Most anglers fishing fry patterns or nymphs high in the water. Bank anglers have been catching fish. The Stones and Dogwood bay proving to be worth a look as is the Island and Chestnut tree. First thing in the morning seems to be the best time to target the fry feeders in the margins.

Mervyn White had a red-letter day on Tuesday with boat partner Mr D Pink. They caught twenty plus fish on a trusty cat’s whisker fished high in the water in front of the dam wall. Members Stuart Bilsdon and John Woodings found feeding fish off the tower. They targeted them with a black and green lure fished on a floating line.

Wednesday saw the annual English Disabled Fly Fishers Fur and Feather match. Fished to fishery rules, 12 anglers caught 33 fish. John Thompson was victorious on the day catching 6 fish and taking his 3 fish limit for 6lb 10oz. John also caught the best fish of the day, a 3lb 6 oz silvered rainbow. Pictures and full results on the English disabled fly fishers facebook page. Please give them a ‘Like’.

Thursday fished well producing an average of 4.57. Ed Douglas spent the day with in house guide Lee Henfrey learning the best methods to fish with sinking lines. Ed certainly got the hang of it and caught throughout the day on Di3 and 5 lines with snakes and large fry patterns. Mr Armstrong also had a successful trip, catching over a dozen fish on a similar tactic. Snakes on a fast glass line worked best for him fished off the Island.

Returns were over 5 fish a rod for Friday. Lots of anglers reporting good numbers of feeding fish and vicious takes on fry patterns. Member Bob Margery caught over 20 fish whilst drifting the basin. He fished a hot head dial bach and a cat’s whisker. David and Reece Priestly had a cracking day on daddies. Drifitng the basin they caught over 25 fish and had many offers.

Returns weren’t so healthy over the weekend with no boats out only a hand full of bank anglers braved the strong winds. Most anglers fished Dogwood bay to the Hawthorns.

Eyebrook has produced great sport this week, with an overall rod average of 5.5. Various methods working depending on conditions and time of day. Lots of fry feeders around during the morning at the tower to Dog wood bay. During the middle of the day when air temperatures are warmer there are more fish feeding on insects. Black buzzers and crunchers fished on a washing line are working very fished on the drift or at anchor. Dry flies are working when there’s cloud cover and a steady ripple. Black hoppers and emerger patterns working well. Most boats have fished over the deeper water this week, starting drifts from the Belle and Dogwood and drifting to the three trees or Harrison’s corner. Other anglers have found fish elsewhere, fry feeder below Robbos cabin and The Chesnut Tree or drifting the Island to the willows fishing dries and have found quality fish although not the easiest to catch. The bank is improving each day with fish feeding on the fry into the margins. The dam, Dogwood and the Belle being most productive.

Mondays average a healthy 5.7 fish a rod. Most anglers fishing the dam wall caught on fry patterns. Dave Shaer netted 8 for his morning session fishing a white lure on an intermediate line. Mr Wither fished a mix of dries and washing line and caught twenty plus fish whilst drifting the basin.

Tuesday and Wednesday were trickier with a strong south westerly wind but the average remained over 4 fish a rod for both days. Lures on an intermediate or floating working best in the wave. Members Clive Moore and Ian Jobe caught fish on every drifting during the afternoon. Drifting from the middle of the dam to the three trees. Mr Watson caught 18 fish on dries during the morning, fishing calmer water off the Leicester bank and a washing line with crunchers and a FAB on the point during the afternoon.

Thursday was an interesting day with anglers reporting fishing moving on the surface but coming short to the dries. T Grove caught 10 fish on a black hopper and daddy long legs. Ken Waters (picture on Facebook flyfishstore) caught very well from the disabled boat. Fishing with a mix of lures he found plenty of feeding fish just below the surface in the middle of the basin.

Tunbridge wells Fly Fishers enjoyed there day on Friday. 3 boats caught 50 plus fish on a range of patterns all fished on or near to surface. Mr Pacey also caught well returning 8 rainbows which came to a weighted cats whisker. Ian Jobe bank fished for the morning. Starting at the Chestnut tree he could see the odd fish moving and targeted them with a single minkie fly on a floating line. He found the secret to be not to fish one spot for more than twenty minutes and not to wade as the fish were coming right into the bank. Ian finished the day having caught 11 fin perfect rainbows two of which were over 4lbs.

Saturday saw 9 members of the British Float Tube Association take to the water. Most didn’t venture to far from the lodge, fishing in dog wood bay and around the tower. The returns were super with every angler catching fish and many catching well into double figures. Most fish coming to washing line nymphs or size 14 dries. Eyebrook regulars John Punt and Andy Gallacher had one of the best days of their session. Boating 14 fish on foam daddies.

Sunday was a day of two halves. Perfect conditions during the morning with fish coming to dries but the sun rose and clouds departed during the afternoon making things ‘challenging’. Dry fly expert Ed Douglas enjoyed steady drifts across the main basing. Fishing dries he netted 7 fish during the morning and changed to a washing line set up for the afternoon and caught a further 9. Farther and son tea, Mark Seabrook and Scott had a successful trip. Returning a dozen fish between which came to a large daddy tied with orange wings.

The great fishing looks to continue for the remaining two weeks of the season, with good weather forecast and plenty of feeding fish in the reservoir.

Eyebrook produced great sport this week with an overall rod average of 4.6. Various methods working as the fish change their feeding habits from insect to fry feeding. Dries have worked during warmer days with most fish coming blind to daddies and hoppers. Nymphs fished on a washing line have caught well. Black buzzers or crunchers fished with either a FAB or floating fry on the point are working well. Most of the fry action is coming to lures fished in the top three feet. Minkies or zonkers on a floating or slow intermediate line are working well. Most boats are drifting the basin into the wooded bank. There are still a number of resident fish around the weed along the willows and stoke dry but are particularly difficult to tempt. A single floating fry or corixa pattern working best for these fish.

Bank anglers are having mixed success depending on wind speed and direction. Most choose to fish the Belle and hawthorns. Others have ventured to the island and chestnut and have more success. Fry and Corixa patterns working best. There are feeding fish between the water’s edge and weed beds in a few inches of water. It is advisable to make a steady approach to the bank and avoid wading to begin.

Monday fished extremely well in extremely challenging conditions. A strong westerly wind blew and most boats chose to take shelter on the Leicester bank, anchored or making short drifts. Mr Woods, Mr Munro and Mr Kay enjoyed the first of their three days fishing at Eyebrook. (we offer discounted rates for both single and two man boats on a three day ticket across all our waters. Visit our website for full details www.flyfishstore.com) The competent trio caught nearly 50 fish on white lures, pulled daddies and hoppers. Mr Grele bank fished between the hawthorns and Sam’s Dyke and caught 5 fish on a size 12 black buzzer fished on a washing line.

The middle of the week was interesting with changeable conditions. Mr Hunter caught a dozen fish on a ‘little devil’ or ‘Diawl Bach’ as it is more commonly known. Luke Key and boat partner Marcle Kwisinle caught 14 fish on a catswhisker fished on a floating line whilst drifting the main basin.

Friday produced a great rod average of 6.2. Eyebrook held a corporate event for Sygenta UK. 18 anglers enjoyed great hospitality with bacon rolls for breakfast, great fishing and fish and chips to finish. Tim Burn was absolutely un stoppable and caught 32 fish which easily took him and his boat partner Richard Ward to win the day. For information regarding corporate events please speak to member of staff at the Eyebrook lodge on 01536 770 264.

Other notable catches during Friday were Mr Vicedo from France and friends catching and returning a boat full each on blobs and mini sparklers. Mr Burley and Campbell found lots of feeding fish off the dam wall and caught on a cats whisker. Member Mr Bilsden and Tibbet got stuck into fish off Robbos cabin, Fishing black and green lures and FAB’s.

The sport continued into the weekend with many anglers experiencing red letter days. Draycote Member Mr Edward Douglas stuck to dry flies and was rewarded with 14 quality rainbows for his efforts. Mr Alan Grant made the 100 yards trip and anchored just past the tower. He remained there for his 6 hour session and caught 18 fish on fry patterns fished in the top few feet.

A very busy week at Eyebrook with nearly every boat out every day. Returns slowed slightly as the week progressed with the Autumnal winds and cooler air temperatures returned. Boats have been catching from various areas of the reservoir. Dries worked extremely well for the start of the week but into the weekend fry and nymphs fished better. Bank anglers have had good success with a good number of quality fish showing into the margins. The Belle, Hawthorns and Island are producing most sport on fry patterns and small dries.

Monday and Tuesday both saw returns average over 5 fish a rod. Conditions were great for dries and most anglers fished on top, drifting the basin, The Island to Robos is always a good drift. Mr Bellamy and Mr Orpin enjoyed great sport fishing hoppers they’d soon caught more than a dozen fish whilst drifting the basin. Mike Firth and Arthur Whale fished various areas of the reservoir and caught fish on their favourite fly. The deadly yellow owl. Colin Hendry caught 14 fish on ginger hoppers, claret bits and then a ginked up big muddler into the evening.

The good conditions continued into Wednesday although air temperature was slightly cooler so less fish could be seen rising. They would however come to the dries blind. A couple of anglers reported fishing the shallows at the Northern end of the reservoir and caught some superb rainbows fry feeding and on snail patterns. Peter Nesbit caught 12 fish on hoppers and micro boobies including one brown trout of around 4 pounds. Andy Milner also had a successful day whilst practising for his friendly competition the next day. Between Andy and his boat partner they caught 16 fish including1 brown trout on foam daddies drifting into Robbos cabin.

Thursday saw 40 police officers take to the water practising for their competition on the Friday. Andy Milner held his friendly competition. 12 anglers caught 111 fish. Top angling gentlemen! Most boats drifted the basin fishing with daddies or CDCs. Warden Toff Crowther and boat partner Graham were top rods on the day. Catching 30 fish on nemo crunchers fished between a booby and a blob on a midge tip.

Friday was match day for the Police Pairs. 52 anglers from across the UK represented their forces. The day was won by Tim Strachen and Phil Sadler from Staffordhire. They bagged up and weighed in 8 fish for 15lb 14 oz including a rainbow of 2lb 14. Second place fell to Richard Hood and Chris Webster with 8 fish for 15lb 2 oz. Thank you to Steve Owen for running such a well organised match. Results and pictures can be found on our facebook page. Flyfishstore.

Windier and cooler conditions at the weekend made things slightly more challenging. Lures and nymphs worked bested fished in the top 3 feet. Roy Swinfield caught 7 on a fat black buzzer fished on a washing line. Sunday saw the Blue trout trophy fished which is a friendly competition fished between Eyebrook Member’s and The English Disabled Fly Fishers 10 anglers caught 21 fish and the day was won by Eyebrook. Mark Hunt had the best bag of the day. He found fish in the slack water just past the point of the chestnut tree in a few feet of water. He targeted moving fish with a small CDC and a coch-y-bondhu. Best fish of the week fell to in house guide Lee Henfrey, a superb 6lb 5oz rainbow which took a tube fished on a Di 3 in open water. (pictures on our facebook page)

A week that kept getting better at Eyebrook and finished with a rod average of 7.2. Warmer air temperatures brought the fish back onto the surface with an abundance of natural fly life the dry fly sport has been incredible. Water temperature is now at 14 degrees, a much friendlier temperature for a trout, making them feed throughout the day. There are still a good number of fish on the fry and anglers have reported rainbows to 4lb plus and browns to 5lb 8oz coming to floating fry and suspender minkies. The majority of fish have been coming to daddies and large sedge patterns from across the main basin. Bank angling has been consistent with anglers fishing the Belle, Hawthorns and dam wall. Most fish are being caught on floating fry, dries or corixa patterns.

Jim Deacon got the week off to a good start. Bank fishing from the hawthorns he caught 8 fish on a traditional Sweeney Todd. Tom Wallace and boat partner had a cracking day. Fishing in Norris Dyke the deadly duo caught nearly 30 fish on black diawl Bachs and blobs. Don Mansel and R Buckingham also had a respectable day. Returning 11 fish including a 5lb brown trout which they caught around the weed out from The Chestnut tree on a fry pattern.

Tuesday was a slightly slower day with periods of flat calm making fishing challenging at times. Lots of fish were showing on the surface between the Chestnut tree and The willows. Members David Hay and Lindsay Bates boat fished drifting open water out from the chestnut tree. They caught 7 fish including two browns of around 4lbs each on fry patterns fished on a slow intermediate line. Brian Skey fished at anchor out from the willows and caught 8 fish during a morning session on size 14 Diawl Bachs fished on a washing line.

Wednesday and Thursday were colder making the fish reluctant to rise for dry flys. Clive Moore and Ian Jobe caught 16 fish to the boat on daddies and fry patterns from the Island and Robbos. D Quigley and friends enjoyed their three day trip to Eyebrook. Returning 206 fish between 8 of them over the three days. The majority of fish came to Paisley dry fly patterns and large sedge patterns. They found the fish between the Island and Robbos cabain.

Friday and Saturday fished well with both days producing a rod average of over 4. Fish were coming to the dries and fry patterns from the across the main basin. Peter Nesbit caught and returned 11 fish on dries and crunchers fished on a washing line. Roger Charles bank fished at the Hawthorns and caught 5 lovely fish on a floating fry patterns. Father and son team Tim and Paul Polito had a successful day boating over a dozen fish on CDC’s fished from a drifting boat. Mr J Hayes fished with daddies fished both dry and wet. Together with his boat partner they caught nearly 20 fished whilst drifting open water. Their best fish weighted just over 4lbs.

Sunday fished very well despite a Easterly wind. Lots of naturals could be seen on the water. Daddies, beetles, cinnamon sedge and a good mix of buzzers coming off. The majority of fish came to dries. Jim Smith and boat Partner Ed Douglas drifted the main basin and continuously caught throughout the day on size 16 dries. David Etty and Oliver Mills caught 10 fish on foam daddies and blobs. Mike Jenkins and Steve Wright drifted the main basin and caught 18 fish to the boat fishing a large sedge pattern, moving it through the surface.

The forecast for the week ahead looks good. Overcast days with a South east wind changing to a south westerly from Thursday onwards. Highs of 18 degrees. There should be plenty of daddies on the water after Mondays rain. Please book well in advance as we are extremely busy for the week ahead. .

Pike Fly fishing remains tricky. Things should improve as water temperature lowers and bait fish shoal up.

‘Challenging conditions at times this week. A strong north wind prevailed resulted in the fish being reluctant to take off the surface. Nymphs or lures worked best this week. Boats drifted the main basin from Island towards the dam mainly using floating or midge tip lines. A few anglers pulled lures on Sink 3 or 5 lines and caught well particularly on rougher days. Bank angling is much improved this week with many anglers reporting good catches. Most have fished the Island or on calmer days the hawthorns. The forecast for the week ahead is for warmer south westerly winds. I am happy to report as of Tuesday 19th I have seen daddies on the water and lots of fish rising between the chestnut tree and the willows.

The week began wet windy and generally pretty horrible! Only a few hardly anglers braved the conditions. Mick Firth boat fished the cowshed. Fishing with a suspender minkie around the weed beds, he was rewarded with a super brown trout of 4 lbs and a several silvered rainbows. Mr J Frazer and Mr T Plant also found some of the quality resident browns. Netting a stunning brown trout of over 5lbs from dogwood bay. It’s nice to see a few quality browns putting in an appearance. We ask that all brown trout are to be returned to preserve the wild population we are lucky enough to have here at Eyebrook.

The weather didn’t improve much for Tuesday or Wednesday. Mr Blachford and boat partner took shelter in the calm water off the point of the Island and fished with a washing line set up. A Diawl Bach and cruncher proved to do the damage with a FAB or floating fry on the point. The pair did well to boat 14 fish. Eyebrook and Draycote warden Lee Henfrey fished with boat partner Nigel. The pair chose to fish sunk lines as they felt the cold wind will have put the fish off the surface. Lee fished with a sink 5 line and Nigel a sink 3. They caught 16 fish during a short morning session on a mix of fry patterns from minkies to snakes. Pictures on our facebook page flyfishstore. Lee is also availiable for guiding.

With steadier winds on Thursday the rod average was back up to over 4. Ian McNicoll and friends fished the main basin from boats. 8 anglers caught 62 fish on mainly blobs and minkies with the odd fish coming to daddies during the middle of the day. Martin Owers bank fished during Friday and Saturday. He found feeding fish very close in off the Island. He presented a hares ear and crunchers on a washing line with a minkie booby as a point fly as was soon into fish. He finished Friday having landed 9 fish and caught 12 on Saturday from the Hawthorns and Island on the same tactic.

Saturday and Sunday both fished well from both bank and boats. Most boats drifted the chestnut tree, island into the deeper water. There were a few more fish showing and a few anglers reported catching on dries. One of which was Mr Gillespie who caught well on hoppers in the open water between The Island and Robbos cabin, Geoff Smith bank fished and caught 5 fish on an old faithful cats whisker. Ian Bradfield, Saun Higgins and Mark Goodge enjoyed boat fishing during their three day break which they chose to spilt between Eyebrook and Draycote (A three day package for two angler including motorboat is only £72.50 each ! This can be split between any four of our waters.) The trio caught on a mix of methods. Mark Stuck to what he does best, dry fly fishing. Whereas Ian and Saun pulled blobs and lures. They all caught well returning 26 fish between them.

The fish should certainly be back on top for the week ahead. Daddies, sedge and floating fry patterns will all catch fish.

Pike Fly fishing remains tricky. Things should improve as water temperature lowers and bait fish shoal up.

We can certainly feel Autumn is upon us at Eyebrook. Cooler air temperatures and stronger winds this week made the fish reluctant the take off the surface. Nymphs, lures and fry patterns have worked best. Water temperature is currently at 16.5 and is steadily dropping each day. A good number of quality fish have been caught on fry patterns around Sam’s dyke and the top end of the reservoir.

This week has seen a steady rod average of between 1.83 and 6.5. Monday fished well with an average of 3.9. With warmer air temperatures and a steady breeze dries worked well. J Poote caught 7 fish for his evening session on orange dries whilst drifting the basin. Neil Benjamin and Ian Simmons enjoyed their first day of their three-day trip. They netted 18 fish between them on black buzzers. Warden Jobe Burnham had an evening targeting the fry feeders and was rewarded with an 8lb brown trout which he safely returned to the water (Pictures on our facebook page flyfishstore).

Tuesday saw the highest rod average of the week, a super 6.5 fish a rod and every angler caught a fish! M White caught 16 fish on a sunken daddy whilst fishing in front of the dam wall. Darren Lee caught 12 excellent fish from his float tube in the main basin. There is no launch for float tubes at Eyebrook.

The English Disabled fly fishers held the national Eliminator on Wednesday. 11 anglers fought it out for 7 places in the 2018 England team. The day was won by Stuart Hume. He bagged his 8 fish for a weight of 15lb 2oz and caught the biggest fish of the day at 2lb 10oz. For the full results and if you are interested in joining the English Disabled Fly fishers look on their website www.englishdisabledflyfishers.org.uk.

Higham ferrers fly fishers also enjoyed a friendly match on Wednesday. 14 anglers caught 41 fish. Best 6 fish on the day went to Pip Jeff’s with a bag weight of 13lbs 01oz.

Bank fishing has improved this week with fish feeding on fry around the weed beds. John Dracup caught a cracking 4lb 4 oz rainbow from the Belle. R Baker walked the Leicester bank and found fish feeding close in at the Island. He caught 6 fish on hoppers.

Conditions were challenging into the weekend. Strong winds, Heavy rain and thunderstorms played havoc with the fishes feeding habbits. J Jacobs fished the sheltered water and caught 8 fish on a bibio. D Tranter Caught 6 fish from the main basin on a mixture of nymphs and lures. Brothers Lee and Graham Henfrey boat fished and caught 5 fish between them for a morning session. Graham only learned to fly fish a week ago and has already caught 10 fish this week from 3 outings. I think good angling runs in the family !

The forecast for Monday 11th, Tuesday 12th and Wednesday 13th is for strong winds. Please contact the lodge prior to making a trip to the reservoir to avoid disappointment.

Another super week at Eyebrook and it is all top of the water sport. Conditions have played a big part in the returns this week. Several bright flat calm days put the fish off but during overcast and more favourable conditions the fish have been feeding furiously in the surface. There is a good mix of fish feeding on various food sources at the moment fry, nymphs and dry flies working well. Sunday was the most productive day of the week and resulted in a rod average of 6.3. “Eyebrook at its very best” were the words of one angler as he returned to lodge after a very successful morning session where he netted 22 fish !! The forecast for the week ahead is settled overcast weather perfect for long drifts across the main basin fishing dries!

Tom Bird and Jim Smith got away from Draycote and made a trip to Eyebrook. They targeted specimen fish feeding in and around the weed beds at the north end of the reservoir. Monday was one of the bright days, conditions couldn’t get much worse but the fish were still feeding. Tom and Jim fished with fry patterns and then changed to single dry flies to successfully net 14 fish to the boat. They made short drifts from cowshed to the tern raft.

Tuesday conditions were more favourable and an abundance of fish were rising right across the basin. Dave Schofield drifted the basin with a yellow owl and successfully boated 8 fine fish. Bill Whittle and Richard Watson caught 11 between them on muddlers pulled through the surface. Fishing this method can be great fun. The fish often following the fly, pushing water and creating a bow wave before taking it. This method works well with muddlers, boobys and suspender minkies. Make long casts and pull the fly through the surface imitating an injured fish. This method tends to work best whilst fishing a single fly.

Conditions were mixed into the weekend. Washing line and lures working best during bright spells and dries during the overcast periods. J Poote caught 8 fish on a white lure whilst fishing near to the dam wall. Michael Farrell fished with his son and opted to use a midge tip line as conditions were bright. They caught 9 fish on crunchers whilst drifting from the Hawthorn hedge to the dam wall.

We ended the week on a high with a rod average of 6.3. Most fish coming to the dries and nymphs on a washing line. Trevor Ashby and Fred Kettle found the washing line worked best. They caught nearly 30 fish between them from various areas of the main basin. Gary Gillespie and Lawrie Gillespie caught over 20 fish on dries and washing line from the middle of the basin. Eyebrook Member Mark Hunt was on the water once again and had an exceptional morning. He fished a mix of floating fry, CDC’s and Daddies to net 20 plus fish. He also commented on the amount of offers and follows he had.

Eyebrook has been on top form this week and doing what it does best, “world class top of the water sport”. That is until a rare occurrence happened and we had good weather during a bank holiday weekend! Water temperature has now risen to 20 degrees which has unfortunately put the fish off the surface. With cooler longer nights, however this should soon fall again to a more sensible temperature.

Monday to Friday fished exceptionally well for August. Boat anglers were drifting over the deeper water and caught well on dries such as Shipman’s buzzers, Hoppers in various colours and emerger patterns. Bank anglers also enjoyed good sport with more fish showing an interest in fry around the weed beds.

The week got off to a good start, Monday saw a rod average of 5.77. Andrew Thomas caught 6 fish including a super 5lb 2oz rainbow on a Diawl Bach fished on a washing line. Mark Hunt also had a very prosperous evening session. Netting 10 fish, 5 of which were over 3lbs. Mark caught all his fish on CDC’s and ermeger patterns. (Pictures on our Facebook page flyfishstore )

Peter Baker enjoyed the great sport on Tuesday. The fish were coming to the dries thick and fast. Peter caught around 20 rainbows on a mix of dry fly patterns whilst drifting the main basin. He found the Yellow Owl CDC and black bits to be most successful. Member Carl Cower enjoyed his afternoon session catching 7 ‘lumps’ on fry patterns from around the weed beds.

Wednesdays average remained a steady 5.4 with masses of fish in the surface. Dries worked extremely well and conditions were perfect. K Haken and J Smith caught 15 fish between them on a mixture of Diawl Bachs and Hoppers. Warden Toff Crowther fished during a few spare hours he had. Catching and returning 9 fish he caught on CDCs and fry patterns.

The top-class sport continued into Thursday and Friday. Trever Ashby and Ken Walters had their best day of the season. Continuously catching fish on a mix of dries and nymphs whilst drifting in front of the dam wall. Andrew Rogers caught 12 fish on a hopper whilst drifting over deep water.

The weather change for the weekend. It was flat calm for much of Saturday and Sunday with not a cloud to be seen in the sky. Brian Skey did very well despite the conditions. He drifted from the Chestnut tree to the Willows and caught 5 fish on a Diawl bach fished on a washing line.

Top tips for fishing dries at Eyebrook- Fish from a drifting boat, you will cover more water and therefore more fish. The fish are very dispersed at this time of year. Make lots of short casts and cast to any rising fish. Fish with a single fly. You can often spook fish when water clarity is clear whilst fishing with to many flies. Or flies tied to close together. Fish with as thinner diameter tippet material as you can but be aware there’re a lot of hard fighting fish at Eyebrook! Use ‘Mud’ on your tippet material particularly in bright or calm conditions. This will help disguise your leader.

We hope this weather will soon pass and water temperatures will lower. We will be stocking a further 550 fish this week bringing the season stocking to over 20,000!!
