We can certainly feel Autumn is upon us at Eyebrook. Cooler air temperatures and stronger winds this week made the fish reluctant the take off the surface. Nymphs, lures and fry patterns have worked best. Water temperature is currently at 16.5 and is steadily dropping each day. A good number of quality fish have been caught on fry patterns around Sam’s dyke and the top end of the reservoir.

This week has seen a steady rod average of between 1.83 and 6.5. Monday fished well with an average of 3.9. With warmer air temperatures and a steady breeze dries worked well. J Poote caught 7 fish for his evening session on orange dries whilst drifting the basin. Neil Benjamin and Ian Simmons enjoyed their first day of their three-day trip. They netted 18 fish between them on black buzzers. Warden Jobe Burnham had an evening targeting the fry feeders and was rewarded with an 8lb brown trout which he safely returned to the water (Pictures on our facebook page flyfishstore).

Tuesday saw the highest rod average of the week, a super 6.5 fish a rod and every angler caught a fish! M White caught 16 fish on a sunken daddy whilst fishing in front of the dam wall. Darren Lee caught 12 excellent fish from his float tube in the main basin. There is no launch for float tubes at Eyebrook.

The English Disabled fly fishers held the national Eliminator on Wednesday. 11 anglers fought it out for 7 places in the 2018 England team. The day was won by Stuart Hume. He bagged his 8 fish for a weight of 15lb 2oz and caught the biggest fish of the day at 2lb 10oz. For the full results and if you are interested in joining the English Disabled Fly fishers look on their website www.englishdisabledflyfishers.org.uk.

Higham ferrers fly fishers also enjoyed a friendly match on Wednesday. 14 anglers caught 41 fish. Best 6 fish on the day went to Pip Jeff’s with a bag weight of 13lbs 01oz.

Bank fishing has improved this week with fish feeding on fry around the weed beds. John Dracup caught a cracking 4lb 4 oz rainbow from the Belle. R Baker walked the Leicester bank and found fish feeding close in at the Island. He caught 6 fish on hoppers.

Conditions were challenging into the weekend. Strong winds, Heavy rain and thunderstorms played havoc with the fishes feeding habbits. J Jacobs fished the sheltered water and caught 8 fish on a bibio. D Tranter Caught 6 fish from the main basin on a mixture of nymphs and lures. Brothers Lee and Graham Henfrey boat fished and caught 5 fish between them for a morning session. Graham only learned to fly fish a week ago and has already caught 10 fish this week from 3 outings. I think good angling runs in the family !

The forecast for Monday 11th, Tuesday 12th and Wednesday 13th is for strong winds. Please contact the lodge prior to making a trip to the reservoir to avoid disappointment.
