Eyebrook continues to produce some great sport with massive buzzers hatches in the shallower areas of the reservoir. Black and olive epoxy buzzers have both been doing the damage fished on the washing line, with an FAB to keep them up. Plenty of fish now showing on the surface, especially on warmer days resulting in dry flies starting to become more effective. The bank continues to fish very well with fish still feeding in the margins. The Island, Wallys bay and Cowshed proving most productive this week. Boats areas are much the same as the week previous. Cowshed to Stoke dry being a popular drift in a westerly wind.

Richard Watson and Bill Whittle got the week off to a good start, fishing from a boat between the chestnut tree and Norris Dyke with their own secret buzzer patterns. The pair caught well returning a dozen fish between them. Mark Hunt made the most of his evening and fished the bank netting seven super rainbows in less than three hours from around the Island.

Mr Tait and Mr Nicholson boat fished with Dial Bach’s fished high in the water, fishing the shallows at the north of the reservoir the pairs caught well, netting twenty plus fish each.

Trevor Ashby had his best day at Eyebrook in recent years, even in the unfavourable strong winds. He paired up with Dick Spicer had a good day out mid-week. Taking shelter in Norris Dyke, both anglers caught plenty of fish on various nymphs fished high in the water. Clive Moore also had a very successful trip, catching and returning twenty plus fish mainly to nymphs and a hairs ear CDC. Casting to fish all day Clive was thrilled with his day. Bill Clark had the best fish of the week. An over wintered rainbow of around four and half pounds took Bills cats whisker as he fished at RobbosCabin.

Dave Chadwick spotted fish feeding on the huge shoals of roach fry around the boats. Dave sprang into action and fished a minkie on a floating line and was rewarded with a hard fighting three pound brown trout and four very silvered rainbows.

Season ticket holder Pete Line and J Brittan boat fished on Saturday and were met with cold conditions. A steady westerly and bright conditions during the afternoon the pair had to change their tactics throughout the day. They started with a washing line, crunchers and hare’s ears. As the sun rose higher in the sky and cloud cover reduced the fish went down in the water level. Pete changed to fishing buzzers straight from a flouting line and continued to catch extremely well. The pair boated forty plus hard fighting fish.

Darren Blackshaw took the wardens advice and set up a washing line outfit. Instead of a FAB or booby on the point, he used a floating fry pattern which later proved a wise move after all four of his fish took it. Darren fished in Sam’s’ Dyke and Wally’s bay.

The Trout masters 2016 badge winners fish off is to be held at Eyebrook on Saturday 29^th April. If you entered the trout masters at Eyebrook during the 2016 season and wish to fish the Eyebrook heat please get in contact with the fishing lodge. The final will be held at Draycote on Monday 9^th October.

Weather wise it’s been a changeable week but the fishing has been great with an overall Rod average of 7.73. Both boat and bank anglers have been catching well on predominantly nymphs fished high in the water. With the wind in the north west to start the week and south west to finish, the Leicester bank saw the majority of bank anglers. On warmer evenings, there has been an increasingly productive evening rise, giving anglers some great top of the sport! The Hawthorns to Sams dyke has fished particularly well as has the Cow Shed with fish feeding very close in the margins. The boats remain spread out with fish being caught all over the reservoir. Three trees to Robbos Cabin has been fishing well, as has Norris dyke and stoke dry. With the fish now being more spread out a few boats have chosen to drift the top shallows and have been rewarded with some excellent over wintered fish.

Monday saw John Dracup start his seasons fishing at Eyebrook. On arrival things looked daunting with the sun out and not a ripple on the water. John headed to one of his favourite spots in the middle of the damn wall and caught four good fish on his own black fritz lure. Mike Oliver fished from the bank and had a cracking day. Returning twenty plus fish including a lovely resident brown trout. He caught all his fish on buzzers, sizes 12 or 14 fished on a floating line.

The wind remained in the North west for Tuesday. Guy and Simon Nicholson fish in a boat aroundSams dyke where the temperature was a little warmer than other parts of the reservoir. The pair enjoyed great buzzer fishing and fished the ‘washing line’ technique, using a foam arsed blob or FAB as they are often referred too, to keep their buzzers high in the water.

Higham ferrers fly fishers enjoyed a mid-week outing, and some friending competition. Seven out of nine anglers caught their limit bags with Richard Webb and Kevin Hughes going on to return a further eight fish each.

Dave Scholefield took his grandson Calum for his first fishing trip. Calum netted 4 rainbows, with some help from granddad the best weighing 3lb 5oz.Draycote regular, Jude Tuffs had to come and see for herself how well the Eyebrook was fishing and enjoyed a good day on the bank netting 7 rainbows.

The weekend was extremely warm and bright, but this didn’t deter anglers or the fishing. Fish could still be seen taking emerging buzzers on the surface. Jamie Scott had his second visit in as many weeks to Eyebrook and made the most of the top of the water sport. Fishing a mix of CDC’s and Purple spiders had caught and returned 17 good fish.

The RAF Greylags enjoyed a day’s fishing on Eyebrook at the weekend. All 18 anglers caught fish with a few anglers losing count of how manyfish they had returned. Most of the boats fished the Woodside bank, drifting or anchoring around 70 yards from the bank. Most fished a floating line, others chose a midge tip and fished a team of dial bachs, red holographic or a redhead seemed to work best.

Fishery warden Jobe Burnham went to the ‘dark side’ and had his first trip on the rudder along with England international Lee Henfrey. The morning was a success despite a complete lack of wind, the tube pulling duo netted some super fish with browns to 3lb and had follows to the boat from fish of over 5 lbs.

Eyebrook has continued to fish very well from both the boat and bank.The wind changed direction from north east to a warmer south west on Tuesday allowing bank anglers to fish the Leicester bank. Conditions are looking good for the week ahead with warm westerly winds forecast and overcast for much of the week.

As is common for early seasonthe banks are fishing extremely well, with fish gorging on corixa and buzzers close to the margins. Season ticket holder Bill Stewart and Roger Carlton fished from the Belle to the Old Road catching fish all day in which ever spot they moved too. Bill commended on how close the fish were in the margin, meaning there certainly wasn’t any need to wade. Both anglers returned twenty plus fish. Mr P Hurren and Mr I Peaston made their first trip of the season and were delighted with their day’s sport. Boat fishing a team of buzzers, diawlbachs and other nymphs they netted thirty fish a piece, resulting in a hard-fought tie between the two anglers at the end of the day. Draycote warden Tom Bird had a change of scenery and spent his day off work at the Eyebrook constantly catching fish on a washing line set up, consisting of black buzzers and a foam arsed blob on the point. Ian Jobe got away from the crowds and fished the chestnut tree. Catching around thirty fish on dial bachs and buzzers.

James Vasey and Geoff Curry made the trip south once again and made the most of our three-day special permit (details on our website www.flyfisheyebrook.co.uk). They boat fished at Pollards jump on their first day catching around thirty fish between them including three lovely overwintered specimens. The best went to 5lb 7oz and was safely returned to fight another day. The wind was stronger on Thursday and Friday meaning the wood bank was a little rough so Geoff and James took shelter in Norris Dyke and caught very well on a team of very small black buzzers.

David Davis enjoyed a Sunday afloat the Eyebrook with his son Dan. Dan was top rod of the day catching thirteen fish beating his father’s poor effort of only managing ten! Well done Daniel!

Best bank areas this week have been The Hawthorn hedge, Badger Point, dam wall and the Island. Small buzzers fished either washing line or under a bung, have been the most successful methods. As for the boats it’s been a lot more spread out. The Point, Pollards, Sams Dyke and The cow Shed are all holding a lot of fish at the moment. Fishing close to the margins anchored has been working the best

“What a way to start” opening day 2017 saw 89 anglers enjoy great sport at Eyebrook, catching a staggering1102 fish giving a rod average of 12.34!

Bob Margery was first in the queue waiting at the gate, after signing in he headed straight round to pollards jump where he was into fish all day on various fly patterns. Rob Hobson was fishing at Robbos cabin and took 4 quality rainbows for 12lb 8oz. Rob Inglis and Ian Reeves fished the willows for most of the day and both caught well into double figures on size 14 epoxy buzzers fished on a floating line. Steve Lawrence had his best start to a season for some years, fishing between Pollards and the Seat. Reports say he had a fish or a pull nearly every cast ! His best fish of the day was a superb brown trout of around 4lb 8oz which was safely returned. We ask all anglers to return all brown trout to maintain the wild stocks we have here at Eyebrook.

The boats fished equally well as the bank, John Eaton, Bill Presgrave, Arthur Sykes and Stuart Jackson anchored 50 yards out from robbos and caught frequently on their famous skinny buzzers.

The wind stayed the same north easterly over the weekend but temperatures rose, resulting in a tremendous buzzer hatch, anglers reported catching fish full of buzzers. Nick Board and Steve Orton thought they’d be optimistic and try the dries and consequently caught on a CDC shuttlecock and the ‘F’ fly. Jacob Gill aged 8 fished with his father Paul and caught four super rainbows. (See our Facebook page flyfishstore for pictures). Mal Green took the best rainbow of the opening few days, a great silvered over wintered fish with a pristine tail to match weighing in at 4lb 11oz. Eyebrook warden and England international, Lee Henfrey made the most of his morning off and went for a fish down stoke dry fishing a team of buzzers lee enjoyed good sport. Lee will be working at Eyebrook and Draycote and will be available for guiding.

Eyebrook opens 23rd March 2017 and is under the new management of Fishery Management(UK)Ltd.

Fishery Management(UK)Ltd has acquired the lease to manage the entire 700 acre Eyebrook estate which includes the 400 acre Eyebrook reservoir trout fishery.

The 2017 Fly Fishing season will open on the Thursday 23rd March with bank fishing available from 7.30am and boats from 8.30am.

With a preseason stocking of over 5,500 trout our visiting bank and boat anglers can expect an excellent start.

Regular weekly stockings are booked (weather permitting) with 24,500 rainbow trout booked to be stocked during this season, our four trout suppliers will be River Gwash, Westacre, Exe Valley and Rainbow Valley fish farms.
