Eyebrook weekly report week ending 23rd June 2019

Telephone Number: 01536 770264

Weather Forecast: Were often asked which weather forecast we use, from our experience unfortunately we no longer find the BBC regional one to be accurate enough too many days lost to inaccurate local forecast.

We recommend for Eyebrook you use XC Weather available as an App on your phone or download to your computer, put in the fisheries postcode LE16 8RP

Fishing Report: Unsurprisingly, we haven’t had as much rain as fell last week and with the scour valves open, our water levels were back to normal by Thursday. Also, with the crops well established in the fields, there was no residual water clarity issues and there is now reasonable visibility at the bottom of Stoke dry. The cooler water that flowed into the reservoir last week and the cooler than average day time temperatures has resulted in the water temperature remaining within the ideal range for reservoir trout fishing of 12c – 18c.

This week, the staff have started to manage the bankside vegetation so as to minimise its affects on bankside access and casting. Also, this week, the staff did a complete survey of the marginal weed growth to see how it is impacting upon the bank fishing. The greater majority of bank is accessible, albeit with occasional weedy areas but the main areas where excessive weed growth will affect bank fishing are currently Dogswood Bay, the bank between Sam Dyke and the point on the island and Mucky Bay to the Chestnut. During the survey, the staff observed lots of fish moving along the edges of the weed beds, probably waiting to move into the weed beds during the evening to mop up the emerging insect life. These fish should respond well to floating line tactics. A further stocking took place this week with the total stocked now in excess of 15,000, a video of these fish can be seen on our Facebook page.

There are still lots of damsels emerging as well as buzzers during the day and sedge hatches in the evening. We have also begun to notice an increase in the Daphnia levels and there is still pin fry in abundance. With the fish hitting these Pin Fry, our guides top pattern to land these challenging fish is the Fulling Mill’s Barron. This fly is best fished on co-polymer like a dry and as the fish hit and stun the pin fry this little f-wing style dry with its pearl body will look like an injured fry waiting to get eaten. This pattern is in stock at Draycote so call the lodge on 01788 812018.

With the water warming and the fish rising in the water the washing line is fast becoming the top method of the moment. To coincide with this Guiding & Tuition Manger Tom Bird has written a blog post to help your catch rate when fishing the washing line which can be found at www.flyfishtuition.co.uk.  To go along with this blog we have also put together the Fishery Management (UK) ltd guides top flies for all venues for the washing line that can be found on the online shop https://www.flyfishstore.co.uk/offers/”

As the levels dropped and the temperatures stabilised, the fishing got better as the week progressed with rod averages increasing from just below 2 to 6.5 on Sunday. On Monday, Mr Whittle took 8 during a morning boat session whilst Ollie Mills took 9 and Mr Johnson 10, during their afternoon/ evening bank sessions. Ashley Gillies and his boat partner also enjoyed their evening boat session and posted a report with photos on our Facebook page.

The fishing on both Tuesday and Wednesday was frustrating with lots of fish moving but proving to be finicky. However nearly all the anglers caught fish, although only member Bob Margery recorded a double figure catch.

Thursday saw an upturn in fortunes with some good catches recorded. Neil Shilton took to the water in his tube and recorded 15 fish, whilst Mr Frampton landed “loads”. Dave Heseltine and his boat partner, Mark Evans, used pearly green buzzers to land 22. On Friday, all water member Jamie Scott enjoyed a “lovely day” using a boat to work the edges of the weed beds in the vicinity of the Bell. He used black crunchers on a washing line to deceive 16 fish, whilst Eyebrook member Michael Farrell used Hoppers for his 11. Other successful patterns used on Thursday included Shipmans, Buzzers and blobs.

The weekend saw the best fishing of the week with lots of fish falling to Daddies, Diawl Bachs and FABs. Mark Hunt had 15 during his morning session, whilst members Dave Chadburn and Jerry Barnes took nearly 20 fish between them fishing the far end of the dam wall. Ged O’Donaghue and Steve Orton also landed 20 fishing the main basin with Ged returning on Sunday to catch another 18. Claudio C and his partner fished the same area to bring over 30 fish to their boat.

Pike Fishing

This was the first full week that the reservoir was open for pike fishing, but the resident big ladies have been difficult to tempt although we have had several reports of them following flies. This week we did see one twenty and some doubles taken but we were unable to better Adam Cooper’s 28 Lb fish taken on opening day. The jacks though have been more than willing to take with lots of fish being caught in the 5 to 8-pound range. Pike fishing will continue ( water temperatures permitting) until we close the fishery on the 3st October. Pike fishing is fly only, is limited to a maximum of 5 boats per day and it is recommended that visiting pike anglers check the specific pike fishing regulations which can be found on the fishery website. This year we will also be offering guided pike fishing with our in-house guides. Further details are available on our guiding and Tuition website ( http://www.flyfishtuition.co.uk) or by contacting our guiding manager Tom Bird on 01788 812018.

EYEBROOK weekly report week ending 16th June 2019

Telephone Number: 01536 770264

Well we needed the rain, but not all of it in one week!

Luckily with the crops well established in the fields & leaf on the trees the deluge of water flowing into the reservoir didn’t cause any major issues to the clarity, unless you were down the bottom of stoke dry. The cooler water flowing in gave us the added bonus of our water temperature dropping at one point to 12c which is superb for trout fishing and 5 degrees below were we would expect, for reservoir trout fishing 12c – 18c is the temperature range we like to see.

Still lots of damsels, pin fry, buzzer during the day with the sedge hatches increasing every evening.

Monday members B Whittle & R Watson caught 9 trout for their mornings session with Mr Lamb fishing the afternoon / evening & catching 16 on damsels & diawl bachs

Tuesday it never stopped raining with no rods fishing

Wednesday and another wet day with some of the rods finding the conditions challenging, that wasn’t the case for members Ian Jobe & Clive Moore who caught over 30 trout between them.

Thursday the East region police fished a competition with us averaging 3 fish with fish to 4lb8oz caught, day rods J Gaskell & C Gaskell caught 18 for their visit

Friday with the improving weather anglers reported seeing lots of fish moving Arthur Olding & Mark Hunt shared a boat with damsels & dries accounting for their 26 trout during a mornings visit. Cruncher, Fab & damsels took 11 trout for M Collerson, M Hay caught 13 on Fabs & cormorants with Ollie Mills fishing a damsel to take his 15 trout during an afternoon – evening session. Kevin Hart on a day off from Draycote visited Eyebrook catching 18 on crunchers, diawls fishing a RIO midge tip in front of the dam.

Saturday & All Water member Ian Jobe returned for his second visit of the week this time in his float tube catching 14 for his morning session. Invicta Fly Fishers visited Eyebrook with 22 members returning 140 trout for a club outing rod average of 6.4

Member Malcolm Thompson bank fished using a favourite nymph for the Eyebrook, the “Frazer Nymph” catching 18 trout, Keith Johnson also bank fished recording 8 for his late afternoon session.

Sunday & we welcomed back the All Abilities Fly Fishing group with 16 members catching 76 trout for a group average 4.8

Brendan Thomas caught 7 trout but commented on the evening rise “Crazy Last Hour – Brilliant Fathers Day”

The dry fly worked for R Middleton who caught 14 trout for his visit with All Water member Ed Douglass & Jim Smith also fishing dries to take their fish as did Mark Hunt fishing from the bank during the evening rise to catch his 10 fish.

On the 16th June we allowed fly anglers to target the Pike with Adam Cooper recording the largest pike taken on the day at 28Lb photo on our facebook page

Eyebrook Report W/E 9th June 2019

Posted by & filed under Reports.

EYEBROOK weekly report week ending 9th June 2019

Telephone Number: 01536 770264

A very changeable week weather wise with some difficult days towards the weekend. Stormy showers also blew through the reservoir on occasions which although uncomfortable at the time were fortunately not too persistent. However, Friday and Saturday saw prolonged heavy rain, but the water clarity remains excellent with visibility in excess of 10 foot with the water temperature most of the week averaging 13 degrees This week we have again seen some massive damsels’ hatches and we are now seeing the first pin fry of the season. As the week progressed, the fish have been feeding hard on the abundance of natural food and this has at times, had a detrimental effect on the catches. although the daily rod average has increased as the week went on. Further stockings took place during the week with details listed on our Facebook page. The total number of fish stocked this season is now over 14,000

The resident fish are dropping down from the Stoke Dry area and we are seeing rising fish in the main basin as well as in Mucky Bay, the Willows, Watsons cabin and dam wall area. Given the large damsel hatches this week, it is no surprise that damsel patterns have at times worked well, although dark brown has again seemed to be more productive than the normal olive coloured patterns. Very small buzzers, crunchers and diawl bachs fished in conjunction with a small FAB have at times been effective as have dries during the evenings with sedge, hoppers, damsels, and Crippled Midge Patterns proving popular. This last week has seen the first sightings of pin fry with large accumulations in the shallows along the Leicestershire bank as well as around the pontoons.

Monday was very hard, with the fish being totally preoccupied with pin fry and damsels. Only 5 fish were recorded for a daily average of less than 0.5. Tuesday was a better day with light winds although it rained during the afternoon., Although the fish were still on the pin fry and damsels, there were some moving on top and other feeding in the margins. Jarl Isaksen was on a three-day ticket in preparation for the Anglers World competition at the weekend and landed over 20 fish whilst searching the various area of the reservoir. Season ticket holder Ed Douglas landed 9 fish whilst Rob Inglis landed over 20 in his afternoon session.

On Wednesday the reservoir hosted the English Disabled Fly Fishers floating line match. This was a boat only match and the 23 EDFF members took good advantage of the noticeably dryer, calmer conditions to land 49 fish. John Thompson was top rod with his 3 weighed fish totalling 7 pounds 10 ounces John also landed the heaviest fish of the day, a 3lb4oz rainbow whilst Mick Hill caught the most fish with 6. Wednesday also saw several anglers practicing for the Anglers World matches. Jarl Isaksen was again amongst the fish, landing over 20 whist season ticket holder Alec Urqhart landed 5. Dave Shaer landed 7 on buzzers and damsels as did Clive Moore whilst Mr Hopkins had a couple of hours on the bank during the evening and had 4 on crunchers.

Thursday saw several visiting anglers from across the channel as well as various parts of the UK practicing for the weekend matches and it proved to be a more difficult day than Wednesday. All water member Neil Shilton took to his float tube and took 16 fish from various areas of the reservoir, Roy Swinfield took 10 fish from the bank from Mucky Bay, whilst Mr Whitfield had two brownies (safely returned) and a two pound perch amongst the seven fish that he landed.

On Friday and Saturday, the reservoir hosted two heats of the Anglers World Individual fly-fishing championship. Friday saw 19 anglers take to the water and despite the heavy rain, all the anglers caught with 86 fish being recorded for a match average of 4.5. Top rod was Fabrice Dockier with 10 fish for a weight of 19lb 15 ounces (included a 7 fish weight bonus). Heaviest fish was recorded by David Auld with a 2-pound 14 ounce rainbow. Saturday saw the floating line heat with 18 anglers taking to the water in even more difficult conditions with strong westerly winds combining with the heavy rain that fell throughout the day. Despite the conditions most people caught with 67 fish being recorded for a match average of 3.72. Top rod was Andrew Elspin whose 8 fish recorded a total weight of 15pound 13 ounces (including a 5 fish weight bonus) whilst Bill McIlroy’s four-pound rainbow was best fish of the day. We look forward to seeing you at the final being held at our other fishery Draycote Water

Sunday was a much nicer day with light westerly winds and intermittent overcast conditions which tempted the fish to rise to the abundant hatching fly life. The rod average for the Saturday and Sunday was 3 fish with a lot of fish falling to damsel patterns, the dam has also started to fish well for the anglers who have tried it. Season ticket holders Steve Laurence & Dave Chadwick fished from the bell with Damsels & Diawl Bachs to land 10 & 3 fish each. On the boats Mr R Guise fished with his father with the pair enjoying great sport landing 30 fish from Harrison Corner and the far end of the Dam. James Brittain & Pete Line also fished from a boat landing 22 on Diawl Bachs around Mucky Bay and then around the Dam Wall.

Pike Fishing

This coming Sunday, the 16th of June, sees the reservoir reopen for pike fishing, which will continue (water temperatures permitting) until we close the fishery on the 3st October. Eyebrook Fishing report 28th May

Posted by & filed under Reports.

EYEBROOK weekly report week ending 26th May 2019

Telephone Number: 01536 770264

This last week saw reasonably settled conditions although the odd day was quite bright and hot, especially Monday and Friday. The water clarity is still excellent with visibility in excess of 10 foot with the water temperature most of the week averaging 13 degrees. The warmer weather ensured that the good buzzer hatches have continued, and we have seen some massive Damsels hatches as well as hatches of various olives, Mayflies and even the odd crane fly.

The majority of the anglers are still favouring the top end of the reservoir and good numbers of fish are to be found there although the resident fish in this area are starting to become used to the patterns being offered. We are hearing a lot of anglers commenting upon fish coming short as well as the fish becoming pre-occupied with the prodigious fly hatches, sometimes to the detriment of the angler’s offerings. A lot of fish can be found in the Watsons Cabin area as well as the open water from the fence at Stoke Dry towards the Cow Shed and the Chestnut Tree. Given the large damsel hatches this week, it is no surprise that damsel patterns have at times worked well. Buzzers, Crunchers and Diawl bachs normally fished in conjunction with a small FAB have also been effective. In the evenings and on the more overcast days dries continue to catch well, and whilst the boats have enjoyed the best of the sport, the bank anglers are enjoying good sport in the evenings as the fish move into the shallows after the sedge & damsels, with the Chestnut tree and Sam’s dyke bring most productive. On the dries the best catches have been coming to Hoppers, Shipman’s, CDC shuttlecock and Crippled Midge Patterns.

The week started well with a daily rod average of 5.2 with several double figure returns. Mr McNicol and his party of 10 on a trip to the Midlands from Scotland enjoyed some excellent sport on the day they spent with us. They caught on a variety of patterns including buzzers, Hares Ears and CDC. Mr Bentley and his partner had a three-day ticket with us and on the Monday accounted for over 20 fish to their boat. Sport continued to be reasonable on Tuesday with a rod average of nearly 5 for the 36 anglers fishing. The fish were responding well to olive buzzers with season ticket holder Simon Kowlkowski taking over 20 fish, whilst Malcolm Thompson spent a morning on the bank and landed 4 fish.

Things got a bit harder on Wednesday and Thursday with a lower daily rod average than earlier on in the week. The afternoon and evenings though were most productive, with Daren Dodd taking 8 fish on buzzers and big reds during his afternoon session whilst Mark Hunt landed 7 on yellow owl CDC’s during an evening visit. Ed Douglas used a variety of flies for his 16 fish on Thursday including buzzers, Diawl bachs and dries whilst Alan Vivian used bloodworms to tempt his 9 fish

Friday was a busy day with anglers from Scotland, Wales and Ireland amongst the 51 anglers who enjoyed some good sport. Mr Hughes and Mr Pearson visiting from Wales took 14 to the boat using buzzers and crunchers, Snug Shaw and Davy Ezeei from Scotland took 8 whilst Kall Mullin from Ireland had a double figure catch on buzzers and red holo diawl bachs with his best fish topping 6 pounds.

On Saturday, the British Float Tube Association visited Eyebrook and nearly all caught. Neil Shilton had 4 fish including a 5lb brownie which, as per fishery rules, was safely returned. Gary Horsley had 4 as did Mr. Woodcock whilst Mr Frakes took 5. Using the more conventional horsepower as opposed to leg power, Mr Leaton took 8 to his boat whilst Mr Peat and his partner boated 10. Saturday saw a massive damsel hatch, a video of which can be seen on our Facebook page, www.facebook.com/FlyFishStore whilst an evening hatch of caenis saw Mucky Bay come alive with fish although they proved difficult to catch.

Sunday was a quieter day, with the showery weather putting off a few anglers. Nonetheless, Rezzi Boyz enjoyed good sport from the boat taking 12 fish whilst all water season ticket holder Mark Hunt fished a drift from Watsons cabin and, using hoppers, landed 15 fish including a fine rainbow that weighed a fraction over 6 pounds.

This last week again saw several anglers travelling to the fishery and taking advantage of our short break tickets. With options ranging from 2 to 4 days and prices starting at a competitive price of £63.00 for 2 days, this is an excellent short package that, being able to be used at either Draycote, Thornton and Eyebrook, allows the visiting angler the opportunity to explore a variety of waters that each have their own individual characteristics. Eyebrook received a further stocking of 600 fish this Monday morning, bringing the number of fish stocked to over 11,000. With good hatches of damsels, mayflies and pond olives, and cooler weather forecast this week, sport at the Eyebrook promises to be as good as previous weeks.

Eyebrook Weekly Report 19th May

Posted by & filed under Reports.

EYEBROOK weekly report week ending 19th May 2019

Telephone Number: 01536 770264

Following the release of another blog from the guiding tuition team which can be found at www.flyfishtuition.co.uk, this week’s special offer is on CDC floatant. Please visit out online shop www.flyfishstore.co.uk to take advantage of this great offer.

This last week saw light winds and long periods of sunshine that reinforced the feeling that it was May and the longer spring days are now with us. The water is still gin clear with a visibility in excess of 10 foot with the water temperature most of the week averaging 12 degrees. The warmer weather ensured that the good buzzer hatches have continued, and we are continuing to see Damsels on the warmer days. There have also been some good hatches of various olives as well as Mayflies and even the odd crane fly.

The top end of the reservoir remains the principal hotspot, however, fish have moved down slightly towards Watsons Cabin and the fence at Stoke Dry. A good head of fish has also moved across the open water from Stoke Dry drifting towards the Cow Shed and the Chestnut Tree. Buzzers, Crunchers and Diawl bachs are still featuring highly on the catch returns, normally fished in conjunction with a small FAB. In the evenings and on the more overcast days dries are catching well. With bank anglers enjoying good sport on the dries in the evening around the Chestnut tree and Sam’s dyke. On the dries the best catches have been coming to Shipman’s, CDC shuttlecock and Crippled Midge Patterns.

The week started off with a bang with the 40 anglers that fished on Monday returning an excellent daily rod average of 9.6. with over a third recording double figure returns. Mr Kirk and his partner took over 20 to their boat using buzzers whilst season ticket holder Mr. Shaer took 17 on damsels and buzzers. David James and his party from Philips Electrical had reserved 9 boats and all enjoyed good sport with a variety of methods.

The good sport continued on Tuesday with a rod average of just under 9 for the 33 anglers fishing. The fish were responding well to dries with Mr Taggart landed over 20 on dries and crunchers. Mr Davies and his boat partner Vaughn fished from the wheely boat and between them landed 30 fish including 7 on dries on one drift alone. All water season ticket holder Ged O’Donaghue landed 10 whilst Mr Wilson and his partner took 20.

On Wednesday the good sport on nymphs and buzzer continued with fish being caught all over the reservoir. Tony Miilano fished at Stoke dry from his float tube and landed 14 fish, the best being a fine 5 pounder taken on a Gold Ribbed Hares Ear. This fly pattern also proved successful for Simon Kolkowski who landed over 20 fish. Ian Jobe took 9 fish as did member Clive Moore, both fishing from the boats, Roy Swinfield fished from the bank at both the dam wall and at Stoke Dry for his 5 fish

The North East Police fished a regional competition at the Eyebrook on Thursday and in total landed nearly 120 fish for a match average of 4.5. Top rod was Bob Seeber whose 15 fish ensured a healthy catch and release bonus to add to his 3 killed fish that weighed in at 5pound 3 ounces. In addition to the police, several other boats went out and found some fish, Mr McGill and Mr. Muir landed 27 to the boat, whilst Mr Mc Kenzie and Mr Robertson both recorded double figure catches. A variety of flies were successful, with nymphs, buzzers and damsels to the fore.

On Friday, all water members Ian Jobe and Neil Shilton were out in their Float Tubes and both enjoyed sport with Ian landing 14 fish and Neil 13. Paul Walker was also on the water, but in a boat and netted 17 using buzzers. out

Saturday was a very busy day and the fishing proved slightly harder than earlier in the week. Dave Carter held his annual Eyebrook charity match with 22 anglers fished from 11 boats including both of the fisheries wheely boats. Dave Etty and Martin Ryan won the competition with a combined weight of 18 and a half pounds for their 8 fish with Dave taken the biggest fish of the day which was a rainbow of 4 pounds and 10 ounces, a photo of this being on our Facebook page. Several rods were afloat practicing for the England qualifier which was being held on the Sunday and they fund fish across the reservoir. D. Middlemass took 11 fish from Sam’s Dyke on dries and buzzers whilst Mr Blythe and his partner planed 9 to their boat using a washing line with a small bobby on the point.

Only 12 anglers fished the Eyebrook qualifier on the Sunday, with this competition run as a fully catch and release comp, all caught with a match average of 7.25. The three rods who qualified for the English national final are Ed Smith, Steve Cullen & Martin Introna. Full details can be found on the Facebook page. Mr Bentley and Mr Straton were visiting the Eyebrook on a three-day ticket and enjoyed excellent sport landing over 30 fish. Bill Law fished Sam’s Dyke from the bank and landed 8 fish on damsels.

This week it was nice to be re-acquainted with several anglers who travelled some distance to the fishery and took advantage of our short break tickets. With options ranging from 2 to 4 days and prices starting at a competitive price of £63.00 for 2 days, this is an excellent short package, especially with another bank holiday coming up. Looking ahead for next week we are set for better warm weather teamed with overcast conditions, as a result we are expecting the top of the water fishing to go from strength to strength. Today we have already noticed a good hatch of damsels with mayflies being observed as well as pond olives. With this good condition forecast and a bank holiday weekend, we are expecting another busy week, so please book before traveling to avoid disappointment.

Eyebrook Report W/E 12th May 2019

Posted by & filed under Reports.

EYEBROOK weekly report week ending 12th May 2019

Telephone Number: 01536 770264

Following on from the success of the Tuition Blog and the buzzer packs on special offer we have decided to keep the offer open for another week for information please visit www.flyfishstore.co.uk

A cold start to the week with cold winds from the north east, with some heavy rain coming in the middle. However by the weekend the warmer weather and sun returned to remind us all it was actually May. The good buzzer hatches have continued, and we are starting to see Damsels on the warmer day. Along with some good hatches of various olives.

The top end remains the hotspot, however, the fish have moved down slightly towards Watsons Cabin and the fence at Stoke Dry. A good head of fish has also moved across the open water from Stoke Dry drifting towards the Cow Shed and the Chestnut Tree. Buzzers and Diawl bachs are still featuring highly on the catch return normally fished in conjunction with a small FAB. Although in the evenings and on the more overcast days dries are catching well. With bank anglers enjoying good sport on the dries in the evening around the Chestnut tree. On the dries the best catches have been coming to Shipman’s, CDC shuttlecock and Crippled Midge Patterns.

Bank holiday Monday saw a cool day due to the overcast conditions and the cool wind. However, despite the conditions this didn’t stop the buzzer hatches and the fish feeding on them. In house guide Lee Henfrey enjoyed a great day’s sport on his day off with friend Nigel Keeber. The pair fished at Stoke Dry and around Watson Cabin with a washing line with size 12 Diawl bachs. Which accounted for some cracking fish including a fantastic Rainbow for Nigel at over 5lb. All water season ticket holder Mark Hunt enjoyed an “absolutely cracking day” using crunchers and hoppers on a floating line. Chris Bradshaw & Clive Shone also enjoyed a god day boating 24 fish around the top end.

S Wilson & G Hoffman enjoyed a good day Tuesday boating 20 fish all on sunken daddies around Stoke Dry. All water season ticket holder Jude Tuffs enjoyed a good day boating 17 fish while using a washing line around Stoke Dry, Watson’s cabin and around the Chestnut tree. Out on a float tube Tony Malcom landed 9 fish using crunchers on a floating line. On Wednesday the good sport on the nymphs and buzzer continued with Ian Jobe landing 11 fish on nymphs around the fence at Stoke dry and then the Chestnut tree. With regular boat partner Clive Moore landing 15 using the same tactics. Bill Woods & Jim kay used brown and claret tufted buzzers to land 25 fish between them including a fantastic 6lb rainbow.

On Thursday the fish seemed to have moved further down the bank with the willows proving to be the hotspot for the day. R Gibbons and boat partner Pat Gibbons used buzzers, hares’ ears and Damsels to land 13 fish enjoying a “great day”. Roy Swinfield fished up at Stoke Dry from the bank to land 11 fish all on small nymphs. In house guide Lee enjoyed a good day with one of the Draycote mangers Kevin with the pair landing over 20 fish to the boat. Using a floating line with size 12 Diawl bachs and FABS around Watsons Cabin and down towards the willows.

On the bank Friday Roy Swinfield once again landed 11 from Stoke Dry on small nymphs. All water season ticket holders Alex Urquhart & Dave Kennel enjoyed a good day’s sport landing 19 fish between them on washing line tactics from Stoke Dry, The Willows and into Mucky Bay. However, the best catch of the day went to R Anderson who used a floating line with Diawl Bachs and a tequila blob to record a cricket score catch. Mr P Nesbitt fished from Watson’s Cabin down to the willows using small olive crunchers to great effect. With lots of pond olive being seen on the water.

Brother Neil & Dean Shilton enjoyed a great days sport from float tubes landing 29 and 20 the bother pairing fishing just off Dogwood near the yellow buoys on a floating line with a cats whisker on the point with Diawl Bachs and hares ears on the droppers. G Gillespie & L Gillespie fished around Stoke Dry and down along Watson’s Cabin using Damsels and olive crunchers to land 32 fish between them. Another angler using Damsels to great effect was Mr D Murphy who landed 16 fish all on Damsels. Charlie Abrahams enjoyed a good day landing 23 fish on washing line drifting from Stoke Dry across from to the Chestnut Tree.

Sunday saw the real improvement in the weather, with a lovely warm day which resulted a number of Damsels, Pond Olives and buzzers taking to the air. Brian Firth enjoyed a great morning from the Wheelie Boat landing his limit and 4 other in 2 hours before deciding to head in before the sun got high in the sky Brian used buzzers around Stoke Dry and Watson Cabin to land his fish. C Cowan & C Smith landed 18 fish between them going from the Willows to Watsons Cabin using Damsels and small olive crunchers. Harry Gibbons & Owen Cook enjoyed a great days sport on RIO Midge Tip Long teamed with either a FAB or Booby on the point. Then Diawl Bachs and buzzers on the dropper the lads fished around Watsons Cabin and the fence at Stoke Dry to land there impressive 51 fish haul. On Sunday we also had Kingfisher Fly Fishers fishing in a club match with 10 boats taking to the water. They enjoyed a good days sport with a number of limits with he winner Andy Elliot landing 6 fish for 12lb 5oz there was also a fantastic brown returned of 6lb 8oz.

Looking ahead for next week we are set to get some good warm weather teamed with overcast conditions, as a result we are expecting the top of the water fishing to go from strength to strength. With this good conditions forecast we are very busy all week, so please book before traveling to avoid disappointment.

Eyebrook fishery report 5th May 2019

Posted by & filed under Reports.

EYEBROOK weekly report week ending 5th May 2019

Telephone Number: 01536 770264

A variable week at the Eyebrook saw some challenging conditions although in the main when the weather was kind, the fish responded well. Saturday saw high winds with coloured water being blown onto the dam near the lodge which had been a prime spot earlier in the week. The forecast for this week looks reasonably settled with light winds and dry conditions, so hopefully as the weather continues to warm up, we shall see more hatches of buzzers and damsels and some good evening rises encouraging the anglers to fish the dry fly to the rising fish.

Stoke Dry continues to be the prime hotspot with some days seeing all the boats heading down towards this area often passing areas that also hold good numbers of fish, such as the Willows, Hawthorns, Island & Chestnut. Sam’s Dyke has continued to fish well, and anglers have found fish in Dogwood Bay, the Bell and off the Dam. This week saw several good catches taken on Damsels whilst Washing Line tactics and the Bung have been successful with buzzers, diawl bach and crunchers proving popular with both anglers and fish alike.

There were good catches recorded all week, especially at the start and middle of the week when the weather was settled. On Monday, good sport was enjoyed by the majority of the anglers. All water season ticket holder Ed Douglas switched to dries to good effect with 14 of his 30 + catch falling to this method, whilst Mr Thompson took a dozen nice fish on the washing line. The good sport continued on Tuesday with nearly a quarter of the anglers taking double figure bags whilst Wednesday saw lots of fish falling to buzzers and damsels. Mr Sharman enjoyed some good sport from the bank with fish of 6 pounds and 4 pounds amongst his catch, whilst Clive Moore landed a fine looking over-wintered 5 pounder.

Wednesday and Thursday were both successful days with a daily rod average over 5, of which several

anglers took double figure bags to Buzzers, and Nymphs as well as dries, which was the successful method for Ollie Mills who landed 12 to his boat on Thursday., Several anglers took advantage of our last 4-hour ticket offer and were rewarded with fish. With the longer days over the next few weeks and more evening rises as the weather warms up as we move into late spring, these tickets will become increasingly popular,

Ollie Mills switched from boat to bank on Friday and had a fantastic day’s sport from the bank, taking nearly 30 fish including 2 fish over 5 pounds (See photos on our Facebook page) whilst on the boats there were again several double figure catches.

Saturday proved a very difficult cold day with a strong, cold, northerly wind blowing down the reservoir, and although this wasn’t strong enough to prevent the boats going out, it did make fishing conditions difficult, especially for anglers attempting to fish imitative patterns. Stoke Dry and the Sam’s Dyke areas were the only relatively calm areas on the reservoir. The daily rod average dipped to just under 4 although Neil Shilton netted 15 fish from his float-tube whilst Mr. Foreman took over 30 using lures. The other highlight of the day was a visit of a Spitfire which treated us to several fly pasts.

Calmer weather returned on Sunday although it was still cold. Mr Ashman used Damsels to net 11 fish, whilst Mr Foreman carried on where he left off, taking 21 fish on damsels. Yousef Dar took over 25 to his boat whist Charlie Abrahams took 16. Although the boats out-fished the bank, Mr Oliver took 6 from the bank whilst Ken Mitchell took a nice 4 pounder from the bank.

This being a bank holiday week, the Eyebrook welcomed a number of package break & groups of anglers and although the weather on Saturday unfortunately impacted on the travelling angler, the other 6 days of the week produced consistent sport with the average for those days being just under 6. Mr Hudson and his party took advantage of our 3-day ticket and he and his colleagues netted over 160 fish. Full details of these packages, which can be used at all of our venues, can be found on our website as well as local accommodation, either near Eyebrook or further afield if combining visits to Draycote and Thornton.

Eyebrook Week Ending 21st April 2019

EYEBROOK weekly report week ending 21st April 2019

Telephone Number: 01536 770264 lodge@flyfisheyebrook.co.uk

Eyebrook continues to provide good sport with the rod average for the last week 5.8 with Stoke Dry area producing consistently well for boat anglers along with the Chestnut & Mucky Bay. The water clarity is “gin clear” therefore any form of ripple will certainly help. On the calmer brighter days as the day progresses boat anglers need to seek out the drop off areas around the chestnut, mucky bay & bell coming off the midge tip & floaters and reach for your sink 3 sinkers. Slow retrieve or static is best.

For the bank anglers its certainly paid to be mobile, Stoke Dry best first thing & last thing with the Bell, Hawthorns & netted bank all areas worth trying. Eyebrook member Dave Chadwick bank fished on Saturday catching a cracking 4lb rainbow

Tuesday all water member Tony Day fished the washing line with buzzers to temp his catch of 26 rainbows, L Bates boat fished for a morning session catching 10 trout to 4lb with Mark Hunt fishing the late evening session with dries catching 7 trout down the bottom of stoke dry.

Wednesday & the rod average at the end of the day was 10+ with anglers getting into double figures catching on buzzers, diawls, cruncher, blob, fab & dries with Bill Clarke boating fish of 3lb+ & 4lb+ the washing line worked best.

Thursday & our good sport continued, all water member Alex Urquhart caught 18 trout including a tench, Draycote members P Elliott & Lee Patten visited Eyebrook catching well into double figures as did all water member Nev Welsh

Friday Neil Shilton took to his float tube & enjoyed an excellent day catching 28 trout to 4lb5oz, Eyebrook member Steve Lawrence bank fished catching 8 trout for his 4 hour morning session.

Saturday & Sunday the brighter hotter & calmer days greeted the anglers, despite the conditions the Eyebrook continued to produce good sport with emergers, buzzers, fabs & diawls still the patterns of choice with a small weighted damsel on the point working well in the bright conditions. Again Stoke Dry produced the majority of fish with the drop off in front of the chestnut, mucky bay & bell fishing well during the brighter warmer part of the day.
