Eyebrook Reservoir; Fishery report for week to 25th August 2019

Very much a week of two halves, the start of the week with the cooler temperatures and rain resulted in the fish coming up in the water and the best catches came from washing line tactics and dry flies. However, by Friday the weather turned and the sun made an appearance which continued throughout the weekend, caused the fishing to drop off again. Overall a total of 125 anglers visited the fishery landing a total of 232 fish for a rod average of 1.9
As previously mentioned with the change in weather there has certainly been a big change in what has been working out on the reservoir. For the start of the week the anglers found success fishing high in the water. Using a washing line with Diawl Bach’s on either a midge tip or floating line. Dries also featured well on the catch report for the start of the week with daddies seeming to be the best pattern. Other successful tactics were using minkies fished on a medium sinking line. With the return of the hot weather, the methods already mentioned still worked, although, it was in the morning that seemed to be the effective time. As the day wore on and it got hotter over the weekend fast sinking lines and snakes became the order of the day.
The week kicked off in fine form with all water season ticket holder Paul Walker landing 13 fish from the main basin using Diawl Bach’s and crunchers fished on a floating line. This good top of the water sport continued into Tuesday, with regular Oliver Mills boating 11 fish on daddies from the Main Basin. All water season ticket holder Norman Perkins boated 9 fish all on washing lined Diawl Bach’s. Mr T Gill also found Diawl Bach’s to be the best option on Tuesday landing 7 fish. After the two previous 2 days Wednesday really saw the sport pick up with the fishery posting a 5 fish rod average. Wednesday regulars Clive Moore & Ian Jobe landed 22 fish to the boat, using Minkies on medium sink lines. The pair found the fish holding just off the Dam along the side of the weed bed hitting into the whole shoal of roach. Ollie Mills once again used Daddies to great effect landing 17 fish drifting all over the deeper water.
The fishing slowed slightly Thursday with a rod average of 3.75, Ian Jobe returned but this time opted to spend the day in his float tube. Using the same tactics as the previous day Ian landed 5 fish. Season ticket holder Roy Swinfield & Lindsey Bates landed 9 fish to the boat all on nymphs fished on a floating line. Another season ticket holder who enjoyed good sport was Karl Conzer who landed 6 fish during an afternoon session from a boat. Friday saw the weather break and it was most certainly a day when you needed to get on the water early and make the most of the cloud before the sun broke through around 11am. Jude Tuffs used sinking lines and lures to land 6 fish from the Main Basin, with James Scott landing 4 with 3 on daddies first thing and then the final fish taking a black booby on a sinking line in the afternoon. With the temperatures hitting over 30°C Saturday it was another challenging day on the water. Once again it was a case of making the most of the cooler morning temperatures before the mercury rose. Brian White using a floating line with a team of red holographic Diawl Bach’s to land 3 fish in the morning including a fantastic 4lb 2oz Rainbow taken just outside Dogwood Bay. Season ticket Holder Bob Margery & Dave Chadwick found that buzzers fished deep in the Main Basin the key to boat 6 fish during the heat of the day. One of the Eye Water Fishing Club party used dries to land 5 fish with 4 of these coming early in the day.

Pike Fishing
Pike fishing is fly only, limited to a maximum of 5 boats per day. Visiting pike anglers should also check the specific pike fishing regulations which can be found on the fishery website. This year we will also be offering guided pike fishing with our in-house guides. Don’t forget to pick up your loyalty card from the lodge, once you have purchased 10 of the same permits, your next visit of that permit option is FREE valid at all three fisheries, Thornton, Draycote and Eyebrook
