This will be a shortened fishing report as its been put together at one of our other fishery lodges

Eyebrook did not offer the best fishing conditions for the two heats of the John Horsey Anglers World competition

The first day was fished to competition rules but they could use any fly line. Its not surprising therefore that anglers reached for their fastest sinking lines with the heat winner Craig Barr fishing a DI8 & booby patterns 30ft down to catch his winning 6 fish catch. Overall the 21 competitors caught 28 trout for a rod av 1.3

Day 2 of the Anglers World heat was floating line only, not ideal in the current heatwave, however from experience a floating line only heat always produces a better rod average as it takes away the option of continually changing lines & doubt of should I be on a floater, hover, intermediate or one of the many variants of sinking lines. 21 rods took to the water with Tony Curtis winning the heat with 5 trout, using the mandatory floating line with a leader 25ft deep with nymph & buzzers, excellent fishing in challenging conditions the rod average 1.5 was a slight improvement on the day before.

On Sunday mid Northants Fly Fishing club visited Eyebrook with 22 rods fishing their club competition to fishery rules, again the fastest sinking lines ruled the day with Snakes been the most successful pattern. Special mention must go to Frazer Duffy jnr who caught 10 fish on the day, again excellent angling in those difficult conditions.

Clarity of the Eyebrook remains excellent with little weed growth which bodes well for the bank fishing later on in the year once normal water temperatures resume.
