EYEBROOK weekly report week ending 14th April 2019

Telephone Number: 01536 770264 lodge@flyfisheyebrook.co.uk

While easterly winds and hard overnight frosts made for cold conditions or the anglers. The fishing has been on fire with amazing catches coming on a variety of methods. However, it has been the buzzers and nymphs that have really been producing the results. Overall a total of 212 rods visited the fishery landing an impressive 1823 for a whopping rod average of 8.5.

Monday kicked off in fine form with a 12 fish rod average with some fantastic catches. Pete Eville landed 31 fish from Stoke Dry fishing Diawl Bach’s static on a washing line on a floater. Season ticket holder Lindsey Bates and Roy Swinfield enjoyed a good day from the boat landing 41 fish in total on small nymphs drifting into mucky bay. All water season ticket holder Ed Douglas enjoyed an amazing days sport landing a cricket score for the day. Ed fished over at the Willows in the morning with buzzers on a washing line. Before moving over to the Island and Mucky Bay later in the day, using crunchers to great effect. From the bank J Brown landed 10 fish from Stoke Dry on buzzers fished on a washing line.

After the amazing rod average of 12 Monday, expectations for more good fishing continue Tuesday. This proved to be the case with a 14.2 rod average. Tim Grove fished buzzer from an anchored boat in Stoke Dry to land 15 fish. Mr G Chewter & Mr W Ormiston landed 50 fish between them all on nymphs from the top end around Stoke Dry and the Willows. On the bank Roy Swinfield fished at Stoke Dry on small buzzers to land 17 fish. Mr G & R Horner landed 38 fish all on small buzzers around Stoke Dry. Nick Dunn & Julian Weddle enjoyed a great day landing 65 fish between them fishing a washing line with nymphs and buzzers at Stoke Dry.

Once again buzzers and nymphs were the order of the day, to land great catches. Tim Grove landed 50 fish all on small black buzzers sized 12 & 14 fished on a floating line around the shallows at Stoke Dry. All water season Phil Mee landed 19 fish all on buzzers and nymphs on a floater in the shallows and into Mucky Bay. Ian Jobe & Clive Moore enjoyed a good on the nymphs fishing round the Chestnut Tree, Mucky Bay and Stoke Dry landing 28 fish. Also, out of the water Wednesday was Higham Ferrers fishing club who enjoyed a great club outing landing 119 fish between the 10 of them for a 11.9 rod average. Winning the day was Pip Jeffs who landed 28 fish on a mix of Buzzers, Diawl Bach’s and blobs on a floating line.

Out the water in house guide Lee Henfrey took all water season ticket holder John O’Hara with John landing over 15 fish all on buzzers fished under the bung at Stoke Dry and then later in the day at the Willows. Roy Swinfield and Lindsey Bates fished from a boat around Stoke Dry landing over 40 fish between them all on small buzzers and nymphs. All water season ticket holder Tony Day enjoyed a good 5 hour session from the boats landing 28 fish. Tony used size 14 buzzers on a floating line in Mucky Bay with a small FAB on the point to just hold the flies from snagging the bottom. While all these great catches went on the best catch of the day went to our very own fishery bailiff Toff Crowther. Toff is well know for targeting big fish and after landing a 7lb brown he then went and finally broke the magic 10lb mark with a fantastic brown of 10lb 4oz, he first double figure fish from a reservoir. To see pictures of both of Toffs fantastic browns please visit www.facebook.com/flyfishstore.

Season ticket hold M Farrell used buzzers to great effect landing 32 fish all on buzzers on Friday from Stoke Dry, The Willows and Mucky Bay. All water season ticket holder Paul Walker landed 29 fish on a mixture of Buzzers & Diawl Bach’s while out in a boat from the top end around the Turn rafts and then Stoke Dry and the Cow Shed. Neil Shilton enjoyed a good days sport while in a float tube taking 10 fish majority of which came to washing line tactics.

Over the weekend the hard frosts and cold East winds slightly slowed the fishing. Luke & Darren Dodd still found fish willing to take buzzers up at Stoke Dry landing 22 between them all on small size 12 buzzers. The England Youth Team enjoyed some good sport while on a training weekend over both days. They used a variety of methods from pulling lures to buzzers. Although it was fishing washing line buzzers on midge tip that produced the best results, with Stock Dry, The Willows and Mucky Bay all producing good sport. Over the weekend they landed 169 fish. Foremark Fly Fishers also fished in a club match on Sunday landing 59 fish in total for a rod average of 7.5 with their best catches coming to buzzers and nymphs once again fishing at Stoke Dry.

Areas that fished were, Sam’s Dyke, Willows, platform, Chestnut and Stoke Dry with Floating lines producing the best along with midge tip lines teamed with buzzer, cruncher, hares ear, damsel, fab & blob they all required to be fished very slow or static with the indicator well worth a go.

With the weather warming up next week we should start to see more prolific fly hatches with more surface activity, as the weeks progress especially now the fish are up in the shallow water.

EYEBROOK weekly report week ending 7th April 2019

Telephone Number: 01536 770264 lodge@flyfisheyebrook.co.uk

Typical early April weather, colder, frost some mornings, windy at times, wintery showers, the windier conditions & the weatherman’s talk of wintery showers (the wind we had wintery showers we didn’t) kept the rod numbers down which was a shame as the fish decided not to take any notice of the weather forecast & went on the feed resulting in a rod average some days exceeding 10 fish per person!

Boat & bank anglers caught with the boats enjoying the best of the sport with fish being taken from a various areas around the reservoir, in particular off the netted bank, robbos & the willows.

Monday Shaun Marriott caught 10 off the bank as did S Skowlkowski, from the boats J Taylor caught 14. Tuesday and another cold windy day but that didn’t spoil the fishing with all water members K Kee & Steve Robinson catching 23 between them off the bank in front of the chestnut on buzzers & blobs, from the boats C Shreeve & Dixie Baxter shared a boat catching 23 & 21 trout on diawls & fabs, Bas Burnham fished buzzers for his 14 trout. Sport continued into Wednesday with R Swinfield fishing off the bank in front of the chestnut using hares ears & buzzers for his catch of 29 trout, Ian Jobe & C Moore shared their regular Wednesday boat & caught 29 fish between them with All Water member Ed Douglass getting well into double figures for his first Eyebrook visit of the season

Thursday & the reservoir had come alive with S Owens police match averaging 16.75 fish per person, all water member Ged Odonoghue & boat partner S Coe used intermediate lines with buzzer, blobs & fabs to record their catch of 35 trout

Friday & the bank anglers found the fish eager to take crunchers, buzzers & diawls with S Normington catching 15 off the bank with Roger Charles catching 12 off the bank for his visit. Belgian anglers Geert Janssens & Christian Jadoulle practicing for the Scierra pairs were finding plenty of fish coming to the net.

Saturday we held a heat of the Scierra pairs with 9 pairs taking to the water with 8 of the pairs catching their 12 fish boat limit by 2pm congratulations to Adrian Humphries & Will Kerr for winning the Eyebrook heat. Eyebrook member M Farrel decided to take to the boat having with his partner C Mans fishing buzzer & blobs to record their catch of 31 trout. Neil Shilton & Shaun Higgins took to their float tubes with Neil catching 18 trout & Shaun catching 9. Baz Burnham returned for his second trip of the week and wasn’t disappointed as he caught 11 trout for this visit

Sunday excellent days fishing with the All Abilities Group enjoying an excellent days fishing with everyone in the group catching with many getting well into double figures with the willows & Stoke dry the areas that fished well for them. Vince Aronica opted to fish the bank heading for the end of the dam wall in front of Harrisons, a slow morning picked up into the afternoon with Vince recording 11 trout

Areas that fished were, Harrisons Corner, netted bank, Robbos, willows, platform, chestnut with Stoke Dry starting to produce. Floating, Intermediate or midge tip lines with buzzer, cruncher, hares ear, damsel, fab & blob they all required to be fished very slow or static with the indicator well worth a go.

On the boats M Farrel & C Marrs caught 41 trout, all water member D Slessor recorded 16.

Anglers R Swinfield, R Thompsom, L Wardle, Tinkler, Miller, Hollougby, Pittam & Wither all recorded double figure catches

Friday & Saturday the Brook fished incredibly well with anglers starting to find fish down Stoke Dry and off the willows. Again the chestnut was a favoured area for bank rods with the majority of boats fishing north of the island. Dogwood, platforms and the hawthorns also produced with the RAF Greylags enjoying good catches on the Saturday. All water members John Woofinden caught 22 for his visit with P Walker bank fishing with buzzers to record his 11 trout, M Rowson & D Clarke caught 60 to their boat on buzzers catching from various areas of the reservoir. M Farrell returned for another visit this time off the bank fishing the chestnut with buzzers catching 31 trout including two brown over 4lb, both returned

Eyebrook fishing report 24th March

Posted by & filed under Reports.

EYEBROOK weekly report week ending 24th March 2019

Telephone Number: 01536 770264 lodge@flyfisheyebrook.co.uk

With an ever improving forecast we have enjoyed some good fishing at the Eyebrook this week with the bank sport improving towards the weekend

It was generally sinking lines working best in the morning with slow sinkers better in the afternoon, by the weekend a few rods were recording good catches to a floater.

Monday and the fish were a good cast off the bank, I Reeves & A Miller caught 6 apiece from the bank

fishing along Dogwood down to the casting platforms, Mr Christian caught 6 from a boat fishing his flies static

Tuesday and again the boats enjoyed the better sport with All Water member Ged Odonoghue & Steve Coe catching 17 between them on blobs, Fabs & cats whiskers, Bill Coppin returned a 5lb brown taken off the bank

Thursday and signs of improving, Mr Cox & Frith boated 18 fish taken on traditional wets & buzzers, Mr Guigan & Dimmick fishing a three day package caught 8 trout including an 8lb brown returned, photo on www.facebook.com/FlyFishStore

By Friday the daily rod average was 5+ Mr Guigan & Dimmick boated 11 trout, Ian Jobe bank fished & caught 14 trout, member Keith Johnson caught 10 including 2 fish over 3lb finding his fish off Robbos`s with S Richards & C Richards taking to a boat for their 21 trout.

With our bank restrictions now lifted bank anglers can venture down Stoke Dry & down past the cowshed, early reports indicate a good number of fish along these areas with a number of overwintered fish reported.

Saturday N Shilton & K Dewey float tubed with both catching good numbers, All Water Member A Lilley caught 10 on an orange blob off the platforms with Eyebrook member M Farrell recording 16 fish for his bank visit using blobs & buzzers. D Etty took advantage of the lifted bank restrictions catching 8 fish on buzzers & diawls down past the pens. Nick Dunn guided his client into good numbers of fish using a floating line with crunchers. Jobe Burnham returned a 8lb brown with Paul Martindale returning another brown estimated at 7lb. S Ayres fished from a boat taking his 6 fish & returning 20+ with S Newby & W Newby fishing from Sams Dyke towards the platforms catching 23 fish between them. Dave Chadwick caught 6 on a cats whisker & reported our summer visitor the Osprey had returned

Sunday proved to be a more challenging day than the day before with the fish generally 30yd+ off the bank. Jamie Sharman & Tony Lee fished the bank from the Hawthorns towards Sams Dyke were they caught 16 between them. From the boats the most successful pair were Brent Vinall & Andy Birkett fishing with Fabs, cormorants & humungus to catch 12

The bank fishing restrictions are now lifted with anglers able to fish all areas of the bank down to the buoys in front of the tern rafts.

EYEBROOK weekly report week ending 17th March 2019

Telephone Number: 01536 770264

lodge@flyfisheyebrook.co.uk

A week when the fishing was dominated by the weather, rain with strong to gale force winds.

For most of the week we were restricted to bank fishing only but with the wind from a westerly direction it allowed bank anglers to fish Dogwood, Bell, Hawthorn & platforms.

Monday, Tom Bird & Lee Henfrey two of our guides fished Eyebrook on their day off & caught well into double figures as did Rodger Kerrison a Draycote member & M Jenkins & S Wright on a two day package.

Friday was the next day when conditions allowed bank anglers any success with Eyebrook member M Farrell catching 10 trout & All Water Members N Shilton returning 9 & Mark Hunt returning 4 for his 2 hour visit

Saturday fishing was again restricted to the bank with G Bateman recording 8 trout, member Bob Margery 9 trout with W Bedder & T Bedder recording 14 between them.

Most anglers opted to fish DI3 or fast sinking lines with blobs, cats whisker, damsel & booby patterns, a few rods did persevere with buzzers, cruncher & diawl with a few fish taken on those patterns.

Overall the anglers who did venture out on the bank enjoyed reasonable sport despite the weather with our weekly rod average 3.8

With a better forecast for the coming week and a further Gwash Trout farm stocking is due this week were looking forward to a good weeks fishing.

Limited bank restrictions in place for the first two weeks of the season, a map will be displayed at the lodge & details can also be found on our Facebook page Flyfishstore.

Despite a “challenging” opening weekend weather wise for anglers at Eyebrook, excellent catches were recorded on Friday and on Saturday and Sunday when the conditions were favourable. Opening day on the Friday was probably the best day weather wise with the boats being able to venture onto the water and the moderate winds allowing the bank anglers to fish the majority of the available bank space. Saturday and Sunday saw very high winds which prevented the boats from going out although the wind direction was kinder on Saturday and some good catches were recorded from the bank. Sunday was much harder with the wind veering around all day and with some heavy overnight rain coloured water was blown onto the dam near the lodge which had been a prime spot on Saturday.

The forecast for this week looks extremely variable with predictions of heavy rain and strong winds some days so as usual we would recommend that anglers visit our face book page or contact the lodge for an update.

65 anglers fished the opening day and enjoyed some excellent sport with a rod average of nearly 7. The most productive areas being the netted bank, the Bell, Dogwoods bay and the Dam wall. Best fish recorded was a 4 and a quarter pound rainbow by Mr Farmer on a black and green buzzer which was one of a catch in excess of 50 from the dam wall. The Murphy brothers took over 40 fish to their boat whilst Mr Clarke took over 30 from the bank. Several pike anglers were out in the boats and had a lot of sport with Jacks, but no big pike were recorded.

Saturday saw the winds pick up sufficiently to curtail any hope of boat fishing, but the wind direction was kind and the bank anglers enjoyed some excellent sport for a daily rod average of just under 9. Lots of fish were taken from the dam and along the Leicestershire bank by the Hawthorns, the Bell and Dogwood. Mr Key took over 20 to Tequila blobs as did Mr Pym who used a combination of a black lure and a pink buzzer. Mr Armitage took 15 using a combination of black and green and white and green lures. Meanwhile the Murphy brothers fished from the bank this time but again landed numerous fish.

Sunday saw the visit of Thornton fly fishers for a bank match, but the conditions proved very difficult and only 3 fish were recorded. Dave Leavesley took top rod with 2 fish for 3 and a quarter pounds whilst Pete Birdsall took the best fish with a 3 pound one ounce rainbow. 4 other anglers braved the conditions including Mr Wright and Mr Jenkins who were up from Wales for a 2-day trip. They took 34 fish, from the Bell with the majority caught by Mr Jenkins using a combination of Diawl Bachs and Blobs on a long floating line.

Limited bank restrictions in place for the first two weeks of the season, a map will be displayed at the lodge & details can also be found on our Facebook page Flyfishstore.

Limited opportunities are available this week for Pike fishing, which ends on Thursday but will then resume(water temperatures permitting) from June 16th. Visit our website for details
