Eyebrook continues to fish well for the time of year. Lots of fish showing in the surface and in to the margins. Bank anglers have enjoyed good sport into the evenings, with lots of fish feeding on corixa and fry close into the margins a hairs ear CDC or nymphs fished on a washing line have worked well. Boats have been spread out for most of the week with catches being reported from all around the reservoir. Long drifts across the basin accounting for most fish on small dries.
Changeable conditions for the week previous meant the fish were very much on and off. Change in barometric pressure always has aninfluenceon the fishing. It is believed the change from low to high or high to low unsettles the fishes feeding patterns making them uncomfortable and lethargic.
Jason James paid another visit to Eyebrook at the start of the week. Fishing his ‘Dukes deadly’ a pattern he ties himself from orange seals fur, Jason caught 8 fish for his morning session. Jason fishes a single dry fly on 5lb tippet material. With clarity, still ‘gin clear’ many anglers are reporting lots of offers to the dries with many fish coming short and turning away at the last second.
Eyebrook regular Ken Waters boat fished Sams Dyke with a single Yellow Owl CDC, Ken caught 4 fish and had plenty of offers to keep him entertained. Ken is in a wheel chair and takes advantage of our wheely boats. Eyebrook has great facilities for the disabled angler, wheely boats are available for £17 a day or £10 for a part day. Thursday saw a healthy rod average of 3.27. Conditions were more settled, with cloud cover and a good breeze the fish were feeding just under the surface. John Eaton and Bill Presgrave boat fished near to the dam wall and had great success on a Diawl Bach fished on a washing line to keep it in the top few inches. The pair boated 10 fish between them. Head ranger Jobe Burnham got a float on his day off and boat fished with member Richard Watson. The pair drifted the basin fishing dries. Jobe stuck with the trusted Yellow Owl and Richard fished a firey brown shipman’s type pattern. Jobe had 39 offers to the dries but only hooked 9. Richard had a better hook up rate, hooking 5 and netting 3 for a dozen offers.
Mick Bennett took a day off work to celebrate his birthday and chose to spend it at Eyebrook. He boat fished, catching 8 fish during his short 4 hour session. Mick fished damsel patterns on a floating line. Casting to fish and retrieving at speed as soon as his flies touched the water he was rewarded with ferocious takes.
Member Bill Law fished the bank on Saturday morning. He chose to fish his favourite spot the Hawthorn hedge. Bill fished with two size 14 CDC’s, fished almost static. Bill caught 5 lovely conditioned rainbows and had many more offers too.
